Exclusive Media and Cross Creek Pictures have entered into a three year 50-50 co-financing, co-producing, co-development deal for a minimum of two feature films per annum with budgets up to $65m.? All films under this new arrangement will be released theatrically in the US through Cross Creek?s slate distribution deal with Universal Pictures.? Exclusive Media will retain and sell international rights to the titles.? Following the partnership on Ron Howard?s RUSH, also to be released through Cross Creek?s distribution deal with Universal Pictures, the first film being produced and financed under this new far reaching arrangement is the thriller A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES starring Liam Neeson (TAKEN).? Written and to be directed by Scott Frank (THE LOOKOUT), the film is one of the popular ?Matt Scudder? book series written by Lawrence Block.

Double Feature Films partners Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher are producing with Danny DeVito and his company, Jersey Films.? Principal photography is set to start in February 2013 on location in New York City.

Betty White may have been the butt of jokes at her Friars Club roast on Wednesday, but not all of it was hard to swallow. A sweet cake was commissioned for the special event, but not just any cake.

The club asked “Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro to create a life-size treat of the 90-year-old actress — and he did it in 24 hours. The vanilla cake stood?at 5’2″, was covered in modeling chocolate?and depicts White with a little silver fox in her left hand.? The bottom of the cake featured the club’s motto: “We only roast the ones we love.”

For those who want to see more than just an image of the giant tasty treat, check out “Cake Boss” on TLC. The network said that the cake will be featured in an episode later this year. The show kicks off season five on May 28 at 9 p.m.

Since 2008, spine specialist Dr. Richard Kaul and his medical team have been traveling multiple times per year to the Panzi Hospital in the South Kivu province of Eastern Congo to perform life saving spine surgeries for those who have been injured as a result of the ongoing violence and the perilous working conditions that exist within the country?s borders. The incidence of spinal injuries has burgeoned to an unacceptably high rate as compared to the rest of the world. Despite the proliferation of spinal injuries however, physicians within the Congo are neither educated nor trained in the treatment of these types of injuries. This lack of training severely impinges upon what can be done for patients with spinal injuries. As a result, these patients often return to their villages without treatment. Sadly, untreated patients have a life expectancy of less than two years due to the numerous debilitating complications associated with spinal injuries.

In a region where a family?s means of survival is completely dependent on each family member?s ability to work, injuries jeopardize a family?s existence. For men who are lucky enough to avoid or escape service in local militias, manual labor is the most common form of work. Men traditionally mine vast quantities of diamonds, cobalt, crude oil, and petroleum bases. These men often work in the “Conflict Mines,” which have been a source of international humanitarian crisis. Men and children work 18-hour days in these mines without the benefit of safety protocols and are often tasked with physically daunting labor that includes crawling into mine shafts with no support systems, then lifting and removing boulders that weigh hundreds of pounds. They are also forced to excavate thousands of pounds of earth with only axes and shovels.

Women in this region traditionally find work in agricultural sector where the country’s chief export are coffee beans and timber. To sell their goods the women set out at 4:00 a.m. daily and travel miles to the different marketplaces carrying packs on their backs weighing upwards of 200 pounds. This daily chore has led to an accelerated rate of spinal degeneration where women in their 20s and 30s exhibit extreme spinal pathology, such as severe multi-level disc herniations, spondylosis, and osteoarthritis that could easily be mistaken for the spines of women in their 70s and 80s. Additionally, women often suffer from malnutrition during pregnancy and when coupled with the virtual absence of prenatal care, an increased number of babies are born with deformities.

The paramount objective of The Spine Africa Project is the education and training of local physicians in the area of spinal medicine to enable the program to become a self-sustaining one in which local Congolese physicians will then train future physicians to be able to treat a variety of spinal conditions. This training is accomplished by the direct hands-on participation of local physicians during surgical procedures. Too often NGOs enter a region and create an environment of reliance that is based on the resources of their organizations. It is the mission of The Spine Africa Project is to create a self-sustaining medical program for the treatment of spinal conditions through education, training, and permanent resource allocation.

The documentary features footage filmed during Spine Africa?s February 2012 trip to the Eastern Congo as well as contributions from Adam Hochschild, author of the New York Times bestseller King Leopold’s Ghost, and Nathaniel Houghton, founder of The Congo Leadership Initiative. This insightful and powerful documentary will shed light on the atrocious conditions within Congo where some of the most flagrant abuses of human rights in the entire world are a daily event.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? House Republicans set up a showdown Wednesday with the Senate and President Barack Obama over legislation to protect women from domestic violence, a fight that’s become as much about female voters this election year as cracking down on abuse.

The House voted 222-205 to reauthorize the 1994 Violence Against Women Act for five years, as the Senate already had done. But big differences remain: Obama, other Democrats and a long list of advocacy groups say the House bill doesn’t go far enough to protect abused immigrants, Native Americans or gays. Republicans say their bill does more to protect taxpayers from fraud and maintains the constitutionality of law enforcement procedures on Indian land.

It’s unclear whether the differences will be reconciled before the November elections, or whether the bills will be used as campaign weapons.

But a pair of domestic violence survivors who fell on opposite sides of the debate reminded their House colleagues that for them and other abused women it’s about far more than politics.

“The man I married had a penchant for drinking and was very violent when he drank,” the bill’s sponsor, freshman Rep. Sandy Adams, R-Fla., said during floor debate.

Wisconsin Democrat Gwen Moore recalled what it was like to try to press charges against her rapist in the days before the law’s passage.

“I took him to court (but) indeed, I was on trial,” Moore said. “I had to prove, as a victim, that I was not being fraudulent in my accusations. They brought up how I was an unwed mother with a baby. Maybe I seduced him. They talked about how I was dressed.”

But in Washington this presidential and congressional election year, every issue is pressed for political advantage, even the government’s main domestic violence-fighting law twice reauthorized with broad bipartisan support. Women account for the vast majority of domestic violence victims. They also account for the majority of voters in presidential election years and a critical bloc Democrats have tried to maintain in 2012 by accusing Republicans of waging a “war against women.”

In a veto message issued late Tuesday before the House voted, the White House said the GOP-written bill takes “direct aim at immigrant victims of domestic violence and sexual assault” and jeopardizes victims by placing them “directly in harm’s way.”

Following the vote, Vice President Joe Biden said, “I urge Congress to come together to pass a bipartisan measure that protects all victims.”

The 1994 anti-violence law provides millions of dollars to programs such as legal assistance for victims, enforcement of protection orders, transitional housing aid and youth prevention programs. Its 2005 reauthorization expired last year.

Majority Democrats in the Senate would expand the law to specifically protect gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender Americans from discrimination and abuse in a move many Republicans saw as a provocation to vote against a bill approved without objection previously. Senate Republicans also objected to Democratic provisions in the bill that would give tribal authorities the power to prosecute non-Indians for abuse committed on tribal lands, saying it was unconstitutional because the accused would have no role in shaping laws that could be used against them.

The Senate bill passed, 68-31, last month, with 15 Republicans voting yes.

Six Democrats voted for the House bill Wednesday: Reps. John Barrow of Georgia, Shelley Berkley of Nevada, Dan Boren of Oklahoma, Jim Matheson of Utah, Mike McIntyre of North Carolina and Collin Peterson of Minnesota.

On the eve of the House vote, Republicans revised Adams’ measure to bring it closer to the Senate version. Gone, for example, was a provision that would have compromised the confidentiality of battered illegal immigrants who break from their partners, cooperate with law enforcement and apply for their own citizenship. But the White House said it still allows abusers to become aware of their victims’ allegations.

Also still problematic for some were provisions that prevent Native American authorities to prosecute non-Indians who commit abuse on Indian land.

Under a 1978 Supreme Court decision, non-Indians cannot be prosecuted by tribal courts for crimes committed on tribal land. Last July, the Justice Department recommended that Congress give tribes local authority to prosecute non-Indians in misdemeanor domestic and dating violence cases.

Instead, the Republican version allows a battered Native American woman or a tribe on her behalf to file in U.S. District Court for a protection order against an alleged abuser, whether Indian or not, who committed the abuse on Indian land. But the White House and other Democrats want tribal courts to be able to prosecute the offenders.

The revised House version omits the Senate’s references to gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders, a support-killer for advocates for those groups.

An armada of groups advocating for women, immigrants, Indians and gays said they were taking names and holding accountable lawmakers who vote for the Republican bill, arguing that such a vote was akin to voting against the Violence Against Women Act.

North Carolina Republican Virginia Fox said it pained her to hear Democrats accuse supporters of the bill of being uncaring toward battered women.

“Republican men and women both abhor violence against women,” Fox said during the floor debate Wednesday. “I would say that we are more concerned against violence against women. … We want to see the (federal) money spent better.”

It can also be encouraging to view your preferred athletes. It?s in your best interest to stay with one person, at least for 2-3 months, while you gain knowledge of how they move and jump. While you are watching them moving, you will be picking up more than you are aware of, as your subconscious mind is aware of all sorts of minute details.

Another great tip is to use visualizing or self-hypnosis techniques to improve your jumping ability. It has been shown that imagining a positive result can help to improve an athletes ability, even though this technique is still seen by many in a negative light. You can go all out and hire your own hypnotist or just start with some simple visualization techniques. Simply imagining your self at your top form every day only takes a couple minutes, whatever sport you play. Be sure that you picture this as vividly as possible to ensure that you see improvement in your performance in the actual game.

Naturally, if you want to improve your vertical leap you also have to practice jumping, aside from putting in the training time for your main sport. Everyone, regardless of age or athletic ability can make significant improvements in this area if they focus on it. You have to be energetic in your training and also be unwearied toward yourself. You can?t have expectations of phenomenal increases within a day. On the contrary, the tips we provided can help you get a better advantage that will allow you to jump even higher in a shorter window of time.
